Michters Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey
Historical Legacy
Michters legacy dates back to 1753, making it one of Americas oldest distilling traditions. Originally established in Pennsylvania as Shenks, the distillery survived Prohibition and multiple ownership changes. Today, Michters maintains strict quality standards, often holding back releases until deemed perfect, regardless of market demand or aging conventions.
Production Standards
Produced in Louisville, Kentucky, using a unique process that includes heat-cycled warehouses and careful barrel selection. Each barrel is evaluated individually, and only those meeting the master distillers strict criteria are bottled. The mash bill features a high percentage of premium rye grain, supplemented with select proportions of corn and malted barley.
Flavor Profile
Opens with rich butterscotch, oak, and vanilla notes, complemented by layers of pepper and baking spices. The palate reveals complex flavors of toasted nuts, dried fruits, and dark chocolate, balanced with rye spice and subtle mint. The finish is exceptionally long, featuring warm honey, tobacco, and lingering spice notes.
Maturation Process
Single barrel selection ensures each bottle offers a unique expression of Michters signature style. The aging process takes place in char level 4 American oak barrels, with each barrel carefully monitored throughout maturation. The final product is bottled at 84.8 proof (42.4% ABV), striking an ideal balance between strength and accessibility.
