Elijah Craig Barrel Proof
History
Named after Reverend Elijah Craig, who is traditionally credited with being the first person to age whiskey in charred oak barrels. The Barrel Proof series was introduced in 2013, releasing batches three times per year, each varying slightly in proof but maintaining the same high quality.
Manufacturing Method
Produced using Heaven Hill's traditional bourbon mashbill of corn, rye, and malted barley. Aged for 12 years in new, charred American oak barrels. Bottled straight from the barrel without chill filtering or dilution, resulting in varying proofs between batches (usually 125-140 proof).
Origin
Distilled at Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, USA, one of the largest independent, family-owned spirits producers in the country.
Taste Profile
Intensely rich with deep caramel, vanilla, and oak notes. Each batch offers slight variations, but common flavors include dark chocolate, coffee, toasted nuts, and rich spices. The high proof amplifies the flavors while maintaining remarkable balance. The finish is long and warming with persistent oak and spice notes. Proof varies by batch (typically 125-140 proof).
