Pappy Van Winkle 23

History

The Van Winkle family's bourbon legacy began with Julian 'Pappy' Van Winkle Sr. at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in 1935. The 23-Year expression, introduced in the 1990s, represents one of the oldest and most sought-after bourbons in the world, continuing Pappy's commitment to aging whiskey longer than most producers.

Manufacturing Method

Crafted from a wheated bourbon mashbill of corn, wheat, and malted barley. Aged for 23 years in carefully selected charred American oak barrels. The extended aging process results in significant evaporation (angel's share), making each barrel precious. Currently produced in partnership with Buffalo Trace Distillery.

Origin

Originally produced at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery, now made at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, USA, under the supervision of the Van Winkle family.

Taste Profile

Extraordinarily complex with deep oak influence balanced by sweet caramel and vanilla. Notes of dark chocolate, leather, and tobacco are present, while the wheat mashbill maintains smoothness despite extensive aging. The finish is incredibly long with layers of dried fruit, spice, and oak. 95.6 proof (47.8% ABV).
