2020 Mayacamas, Cabernet Sauvignon

History

Mayacamas Vineyards, established in 1889, is one of Napa Valley's most historic estates. Built by John Henry Fisher, the winery gets its name from the Mayacamas Mountains. The estate gained prominence in the 1970s, particularly after participating in the 1976 Judgment of Paris. In 2013, Charles Banks and the Schottenstein family acquired the estate, maintaining its traditional winemaking philosophy.

Manufacturing Method

Grapes are hand-harvested from high-elevation vineyards (up to 2,400 feet). Traditional winemaking techniques include fermentation in concrete and steel tanks, followed by aging in large, neutral oak casks and barrels. The wine typically ages for around 32 months before release.

Region of Origin

Mount Veeder, Napa Valley, California, USA. The vineyards are planted on volcanic and sedimentary soils at high elevation, providing excellent drainage and exposure.

Taste Profile

The 2020 vintage exhibits classic mountain fruit characteristics with notes of black cherry, cassis, and cedar. The wine shows remarkable freshness with hints of bay leaf, graphite, and mountain herbs. Medium to full-bodied with firm, structured tannins and bright acidity, promising long aging potential.
