2020 Josmeyer 'Le Dragon', Alsace
History
Josmeyer, established in 1854, is a pioneering biodynamic estate in Alsace. The 'Le Dragon' cuvée is named after an ancient Chinese symbol of power and wisdom, reflecting the wine's character. The domain converted to biodynamic farming in 2000, obtaining certification in 2004.
Manufacturing Method
Made following biodynamic principles, grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts in large, old oak foudres. The wine ages on fine lees for 8-10 months with minimal intervention. No chaptalization or acidification is practiced, ensuring a pure expression of terroir.
Origin
Produced in Wintzenheim, Alsace, France. The vineyards sit on limestone and granite soils at the foot of the Vosges Mountains, benefiting from a semi-continental climate with low rainfall, perfect for aromatic white wine production.
Taste Profile
A complex Riesling showing intense aromas of white flowers, citrus, and stone fruits. The palate combines mineral precision with rich texture, offering notes of lime zest, white peach, and wet stone. The finish is long and dry, with characteristic Alsatian spice and subtle petrol notes.
