Charles Heidsieck, Brut Reserve
History
Founded in 1851 by Charles-Camille Heidsieck, the house quickly gained fame in America, where Charles became known as 'Champagne Charlie'. The Brut Réserve was reimagined in the 1990s to include a higher proportion of reserve wines, setting a new standard for non-vintage champagnes.
Manufacturing Method
The Brut Réserve is composed of 40% reserve wines averaging 10 years of age, blended with 60% base wines. The blend undergoes primary fermentation in stainless steel, followed by malolactic fermentation. After secondary fermentation in bottle, it ages on lees for at least 3 years, though typically longer. The final blend includes wines from 60 different crus.
Origin
Produced in Reims, France, with grapes sourced from various Champagne crus. The house maintains long-term contracts with growers across the region, particularly in the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, and Vallée de la Marne.
Taste Profile
Complex and rich, with initial aromas of freshly baked brioche and roasted nuts. The palate presents deep notes of dried apricots, toasted almonds, and candied citrus, complemented by subtle vanilla and praline. The high proportion of reserve wines provides remarkable depth and complexity, while maintaining freshness and vitality.
