2020 Pontet Canet
History
Château Pontet-Canet is a renowned Fifth Growth estate from the 1855 Classification, located in Pauillac, Bordeaux. The estate dates back to 1725, when Jean-François de Pontet, royal governor of the Médoc, acquired several acres of land and added his name to them. In 1975, the estate was purchased by the Tesseron family, who transformed its winemaking practices and converted to biodynamic farming in 2005.
Manufacturing Method
The wine is produced using biodynamic and organic practices. Fermentation occurs in concrete amphora and wooden vats, with minimal intervention. The estate uses horse-drawn plows in the vineyard and maintains strict yield control. Aging typically occurs in 50% new French oak barrels for 16-20 months.
Region of Origin
Pauillac appellation, Bordeaux, France. The vineyard sits on Garonne gravel soils typical of the Left Bank, with excellent drainage and heat retention properties.
